Description

SU 10007 represents a loose layer of yellowish-brown soil in the interior of the walled structure in the western end of the trench. We differentiated SU 10007 from SU 10005 above it because we found the tops of the walls delineating the space. SU 10007 was very rich in material culture: large amounts of plaster (predominantly in the eastern and western edges, with less in the middle), large fragments of roof tiles, ceramics of all types, as well as bone and shell. SU 10007 also had a large amount of stones, most of which were quite large (see in progress photos). In the SE corner of SU 10007, we also found several pieces of plaster in-situ, though with a layer of dirt between the plaster and the stones of the wall - these eventually did fall off. As we progressed lower, we noticed that the amount of material decreased substantially.
